The Scarborough Stingers Story

The Scarborough Stingers were founded in 2004 by Frank Gallo, a baseball lifer with over 50 years of coaching experience. What started as a single rep team has grown into one of Scarborough's most respected youth baseball organizations.

In 2025, Frank Gallo's dedication to the sport was recognized with the prestigious Howie Birnie Award, honoring his lifetime of service to Ontario baseball. This award represents the culmination of decades spent developing young players and building a program rooted in fundamentals, character, and community.

Today, the Stingers field teams at multiple age groups and competition levels, from development squads to elite High Performance teams like our 2011 HP team. Every team carries on Frank's legacy: play hard, play right, and represent Scarborough with pride.

Frank Solarno is the President and Head Coach of the Stingers 2011 HP. With deep roots in Scarborough baseball, Frank leads the program with a focus on player development, competitive character, and representing the city with pride.

Founder

Frank Gallo founded the Scarborough Stingers in 2004 and has dedicated over 50 years to coaching and developing young baseball players. In 2025, he was honoured with the Howie Birnie Coaching Achievement Award for his lifetime of voluntary service to the sport. A true pioneer of Scarborough baseball, Frank continues to shape the program today — most recently guiding the 11U AAA team to a TBA championship.

The SBA serves as the umbrella organization coordinating youth baseball across Scarborough. It brings together four local house league associations to ensure every neighborhood kid has access to the game.

These house league programs form the foundation of baseball in our community. They're where kids first discover the joy of the game, learn fundamentals, and develop the skills that may eventually lead them to rep and elite programs like the Stingers.

Stingers High Performance Elite Program

Our Elite Baseball program combines top-tier coaching, cutting-edge training techniques, and a commitment to developing not just exceptional athletes, but exceptional individuals. Through our partnership with Baseball Development Group, we integrate the latest coaching, technology, and equipment to prepare players for regional and national competition.

This comprehensive Elite-level off-season training program runs from November through the end of April, combining modern video and data analysis with experienced coaches. Players are instilled with discipline, resilience, teamwork, and the ability to thrive under pressure — qualities that extend far beyond the diamond.

Stingers High Performance Elite Program

Four-Phase Training Structure

Phase 1: Assessment

Comprehensive skills and strength/conditioning assessment. Dr. Ryan Faubert conducts range-of-motion and movement assessments to identify instability, weakness, or compensation patterns. Introduces healthy movement patterns, recovery techniques, and warm-up protocols.

Phase 2: Push

Makes tangible positive changes to each player's body. Maximizes metrics both on-field and in the weight room through individualized programs and hands-on instruction with instant feedback.

Phase 3: Blend

Refocuses movement patterns to integrate physical and skills gains. Includes a mini remap of mechanics to ensure all improvements translate to game performance.

Phase 4: Perform

Shifts focus from training to competing with competition-based drills and in-game scenarios like live at-bats. Prepares players for the challenges they'll face in regional and national tournaments.

Dr. Ryan Faubert — Strength & Conditioning Coordinator (Doctor of Chiropractic, CSCS). Mateos Kekatos — Pitching Coordinator. Patrick Orr — Hitting & Catching Coordinator. Frank Salerno — Infield & Outfield Defensive Coordinator.

Program Details

1,100 square foot weight room. Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 5pm–10pm. Season: November through end of April. Competition: Two US tournaments per season, plus regional events.

Technology & Analysis

Rapsodo, HitTrax, and Blast Motion Sensor create baseline player reports to track measurable progression. Coaches provide consistent mechanical feedback through video analysis, highlighting positive improvements and areas for growth.
